History

In November 2005 a few of the Indian Orthodox Members in the Papworth area contacted the Vicar of the St. Gregorios Parish in London to enquire the possibility of having a regular service in the area. After much effort with the generosity and support of the local Methodist Church the Congregation here has managed to arrange the venue of St. Luke’s Methodist Church to commence the Service.

The first ever Indian Orthodox Communion Service was thus conducted on Saturday 13 January 2006. Thereafter the Service was continued on all the second Saturdays of every month. After the Holy Week in 2006 faithful from different parts of Cambridgeshire and East Anglia have started joining the Congregation.

In June 2007 His Grace late Dr. Thomas Mar Makarios Metropolitan of the then UK-Canada and Europe Diocese has elevated this Congregation into an Independent parish with St. Thomas as its Patron Saint.

With the tireless effort and commitment of the faithful members and with the blessed guidance of the leadership of the Church, the Parish is continue to grow by keeping all the ethos of a Pilgrim Community.
